SkyPilot certifies 5.25-5.35 and 5.45-5.725 GHz

All of SkyPilot's products have recently been certified by the FCC to operate in the 5.25-5.35 and 5.45-5.725 GHz frequency bands in the United States. This allows US-based wireless ISPs to build broadband wireless networks in frequency bands with a lot of available spectrum that is usually "cleaner" than the crowded 5.725-5.85 GHz spectrum.

SkyControl version 1.6 available for beta

SkyControl version 1.6 is now available for beta testing. The latest version has some important improvements, many designed to improve the performance and responsiveness of managing the SkyPilot broadband wireless network. A few notable enhancements include:

  • Static database table caching minimizes direct database queries, thereby dramatically improving server performance and client response and resulting in the ability to manage and monitor a network with up to 3,000 active nodes.
  • Trap-based notification provides timely and accurate network status without requiring periodic polling, thereby greatly reducing management load and improving performance.
  • Failover redundancy automatically synchronizes a primary SkyControl server with a secondary mirror image and in case of a malfunction, the secondary SkyControl server takes over as the primary server.
  • Mass management support for nodes under all domains, particular domain, frequency and group of selected nodes.
  • Batch provisioning performs bulk modifications and spreadsheet format reports for all the views useful for inventory management and network analysis.
  • Improved user interface with additional web interface capabilities including:
    • Node grouping based on Domain, Frequency, Gateway, Extender, etc.
    • Node data such as RSSI, Modulation, Throughput, etc., displayed against each node in the SkyControl tree view. Thresholds can be defined based on that data along with severity-based color coding.
    • "Flat view" to easily sort the nodes based on MAC, IP, Throughput, etc., and export them to spreadsheet files.
    • Access Point client view to display the list of clients connected to an AP, SSID, and frequency band.
    • Node Info view to display all the node related data like Part Number, Serial Number, Active, Backup and AP Images, Boot Rom version, System Uptime, etc., along with the ability to export this data into a spreadsheet.
